Exeter Cathedral, properly known as the Cathedral Church of Saint Peter in Exeter, is one of the most iconic landmarks in Devon and South West England. This Anglican cathedral, the seat of the Bishop of Exeter, is steeped in history, with the present building completed around 1400. The cathedral is celebrated for its early misericords, its historic astronomical clock, and the longest uninterrupted medieval stone vaulted ceiling in the world.
Recently, Jurassic Asbestos Services were privileged to be tasked with specialist works within the Cathedral Close. Our team were instructed to carry out the removal of licensed asbestos insulation board from multiple areas of one of the cathedral’s residential buildings. As experts in cathedral and church asbestos removal, we understand the importance of not only meeting stringent safety requirements but also preserving the historic and architectural significance of these treasured buildings.
The project required precise planning and collaboration with the cathedral architect to ensure that every stage was carefully managed. Working on a Grade II* listed property demanded exceptional care and sensitivity, balancing the need for safe asbestos removal with the protection of historic features. Our experienced team carried out the cathedral and church asbestos removal smoothly and efficiently, ensuring full compliance with all legal regulations.
Thanks to meticulous preparation and attention to detail, the works were completed on schedule. The property was safely handed back to the cathedral authorities in time for planned maintenance works leading into the summer. This project demonstrates the value of working with a trusted contractor for cathedral and church asbestos removal, where the unique challenges of heritage sites must be handled with specialist expertise.
For cathedrals, churches, and other heritage properties across the South West, Jurassic Asbestos Services provide tailored asbestos solutions.
